Effects of Global Warming
The first step towards stopping global warming is to know what it’s doing to our planet. Here are some effects of global warming:
1. It can spread disease-carrying insects, therefore spreading the disease (as Earth warms, the insects move to warmer places)
2. More hurricanes, increased droughts & heat waves
3. Bad impact on economy (crops destroyed)
4. Ice caps melting
a. Rising sea levels
b. Throws off water ecosystem & currents that regulate climate
c. Endangers species
d. Less light reflection off glaciers = continual warming
5. 1 million+ species at risk of extinction
6. Warming could become uncontrollable in future
7. Precipitation increased in certain parts of the world
8. Nearly every one of the 300 largest glaciers across the globe are shrinking
9. Millions of marine creatures could become extinct before we even discover them
10. Weeds, poison ivy, and mosquitoes will thrive
11. Gray whales are dying because their food supply is being killed off
12. Causing wildfires, stronger hurricanes, and floods
13. Less biodiversity
14. Water shortages
15. Rising sea levels can flood small islands
16. Smaller growing seasons can lead to hunger
17. Damaged coral reefs
